The Evanston Police Department is hosting its 50th Citizen Police Academy, where
residents can learn about policing in Evanston, including topics like investigative services and defensive tactics. The class runs from Aug. 28 to Nov. 20.

Enjoy the Evanston Art & Big Fork Festival 

Big Fork Festival

Come out for a weekend-long celebration of local art and flavorful fare at the 6th annual Evanston Art & Big Fork Festival, Fri., Aug. 16 through Sun., Aug. 18. The festival will take place at Sherman Avenue and Church Street and will feature original high-end work from more than 100 juried artists, live music, food, beer and wine. Admission is free.

Community members of all ages are invited to celebrate Evanston, diversity and going back to school at the City's CommUNITY Picnic on Sun., Aug. 25, noon to 4 p.m., at Ingraham Park, located behind the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave. Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with free food, activities, and entertainment!

Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre Receives Seven BTA Award Nominations

Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre (FJT) has been nominated for seven awards at the 25th annual Black Theater Alliance/Ira Aldridge Awards! If you haven't had a chance to see FJT's world premiere production of “Black Ballerina” yet, experience what all the buzz is about. The show will run through Aug. 25 at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center.

Evanston Public Library (EPL) Expands Dementia Programs

To meet the needs of the growing number of Evanston residents affected by dementia, EPL has launched a new Dementia Resource Center that provides information, education, and activities in addition to their Memory Cafés, which take place on the third Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
