A Disorderly Conduct at Burger King Leads to a Weapons Arrest

EVANSTON, IL - On June 28, 2019, at 1:33 a.m. Evanston Police responded to the Burger King located at 1740 Orrington Avenue for a disorderly conduct. When officers arrived they spoke to the victim who was an employee of Burger King. The victim, a 33 year old male resident of Chicago, told officers that a male offender had displayed a handgun and threatened him after the employee told the offender not to enter the restaurant's women's bathroom. The offender fled the restaurant as the victim was calling 911.

The victim was able to give officers a description of the offender and his vehicle as well as offender's last known direction. Assist officers located the offender, Yonatan Wondimu, driving a 2012 blue Toyota at Chicago Avenue and Davis Street. Officers stopped the vehicle to investigate. During the investigation officers located 9 MM Ruger Security 9 in the vehicle. Officers learned that Wondimu had a suspended Driver's License. Wondimu did have a FOID Card but did not have a Concealed Carry License. 

Wondimu was arrested, transported to the station, and charged. The Toyota was towed from the scene.

1 Misdemeanor Count of Disorderly Conduct

1 Misdemeanor Count of Driving with a Suspended Driver's License

1 Felony Count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon

Bond and Court Information 

Wondimu is currently being held without bond in the Cook County Jail and his next court date is July 23, 2019, at the Skokie Courthouse.
