Enjoy fun activities, a parade, fireworks and much more on Thursday, July 4 as part of the Evanston Fourth of July Association’s Independence Day celebration! Playground Activities, 9 a.m.

Playground games


Independence Day events begin at 9 a.m. on Thurs., July 4 with family playground activities at six Evanston locations: Lincolnwood School, Willard School, Kamen East Park, Baker Park, ETHS Track Area, and Raymond Park. Playground activities include Frisbee, jump rope competitions, sack races, pie eating contests, soccer ball kick for distance competitions, and more.

The Let's Play Mobile Recreation Trailer will be at Foster Park Field, located at Simpson Street and Ashland Avenue, starting at 9 a.m., and will travel to Beck Park, located east of the canal from Lyons to Emerson Streets, at 11 a.m.

Kids Fun Run, 12:45 p.m.

July 4th Fun Run


Children age 12 years and younger are invited to take part in the half-mile Evanston 4th of July Kids Fun Run. Participants can register online in advance or on race day from noon to 12:30 p.m. The run begins at 12:45 p.m. at Ackerman Park. The $12 registration fee ($15 race day) includes a t-shirt and packet for the first 200 registered, plus finish line refreshments for all who participate. All proceeds benefit the Evanston Fourth of July Association.

Parade, 2 p.m.

July 4 parade


The award-winning Evanston 4th of July Parade begins at 2 p.m. on Central Street at Central Park Avenue and travels east to Ashland Avenue. The 2019 parade theme is "A Salute to Community Volunteers."


Concert, 7:30 p.m.

July 4 concert


The Palatine Concert Band will perform from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Arrington Lakefront Lagoon at Dawes Park, located at Sheridan Road and Church Street. 


Fireworks, 9:30 p.m.

Fireworks


Lakefront fireworks set to music will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.; tune in to FM 90.5. Fireworks are visible from most lakefront parks.

Holiday Service and Facility Schedules

Refuse collection truck

No refuse collections will occur on Thurs., July 4. Thursday collections will occur Fri., July 5. All City facilities and Evanston Public Library locations will be closed July 4. 311 will be open for extended hours on July 4, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Parade Route Lawn Chair Reminder

Lawn chairs on July 4

Lawn chairs and blankets may now be placed on the parkway along Central Street. Chairs and blankets are not permitted on sidewalks or in the right-of-way. Please keep our sidewalks safe for all users.

Fireworks Reminder

Fireworks

Be a good neighbor and help keep yourself and others safe this holiday by leaving the fireworks to the professionals. The use of fireworks without a permit is illegal in Evanston; violators can be cited. Thank you for celebrating Independence Day safely.


July 4 Parking Information

No street cleaning will occur on July 4; street cleaning parking restrictions will not be in effect. Signs will be posted where temporary 4th of July parade and fireworks "No Parking" restrictions are in effect. Parking meters/pay boxes and downtown parking garages will be free on July 4.
