Rockford Man Arrested for a Warrant and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon

EVANSTON, IL - On June 28, 2019, at 9:14 p.m. Evanston Police Tac Detectives were in the 1000 block of Garnett Street when they observed a subject known to them as Dmarco Whitman. Detectives had knowledge that Whitman had an outstanding  warrant for his arrest. After they confirmed the warrant was valid they attempted to make an investigative stop of Whitman as he walked south on Maple Avenue from Garnett Street.

When Detectives made contact with Whitman he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody without incident. A search of Whitman and the satchel he was carrying revealed that he was in possession of a Rock Island Armory M1911 A1 - MS 45 caliber handgun. The handgun was loaded with seven rounds and was equipped with a laser sight.

Whitman was transported to the station. Once in the station he was interviewed and made an admission to possessing the handgun. Whitman did not have a FOID card or a Concealed Carry License. Whitman was charged with weapons offenses. 

Whitman's warrant was for Bond Forfeiture and was related to a narcotics case in another jurisdiction. A second individual was taken into custody as part of this investigation but was released without charges.
