Earth Day Celebration this Saturday

Ecology activities


Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m. to noon

Celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day at the Evanston Ecology Center with free, family-friendly activities, a litter clean up, seed plantings, the Indoor Farmers’ Market, and more. We'll also have a donation bin for gently used items for Cradles to Crayons. Learn about other Earth Day activities happening in Evanston this Saturday.

Soul of Evanston - Saturday, April 27, 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Join us at the Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center for Soul of Evanston, a community spoken word and dance party! Soul of Evanston will kick off with DJ J.P. Gunnz spinning some of your favorite music, followed by guest poets and storytellers. The night will conclude with an open dance floor as the DJ spins soul, funk, R&B and house music. 

Women Speak - Sunday, May 5, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Writer/storyteller/renegade Victoria Reeves will regale you with true tales that deconstruct paradigms and question basically everything at Women Speak, an evening of empowerment and storytelling. There will also be a commUnity dance party featuring ETHS Alum DJ Johnny Price.

Unplug and Connect During Screen Free Week

Ecology programming


Monday, April 29 through Friday, May 3, 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Celebrate Screen Free Week at the Evanston Ecology Center from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day with self-guided outdoor exploration, experiments, games, and crafts!  Participants will break away from technology to explore the joy that comes from hands-on experiences with science and nature. Screen Free Week activities are free and open to all ages.

Saturday, May 4 marks the long-awaited return of the Downtown Evanston Farmers' Market! Make room in your schedule for fresh food and a fun time, and join us at the intersection of University Place and Oak Avenue for the opening day of our 44th season. This year, up to 60 vendors will sell an assortment of fruits, vegetables, meat, flowers, cheese, milk, eggs and bakery items. Free parking is available for attendees at the Maple Avenue Garage.

Nature's Night Out (formerly the Evanston Green Ball) is a fundraiser organized by the Evanston Environmental Association (EEA) and the City of Evanston with proceeds supporting programming and operations at the Evanston Ecology Center.

Come mingle with family and friends at a festive celebration of Evanston’s green community. Join us for a night of fun, food, dancing, and conversation, and help raise funds for the Evanston Ecology Center!

Beach Tokens Discounted through June 7

Evanston beach tokens are available for purchase for the 2019 season. The City's public swimming beaches will open on Saturday, May 25. Tokens are available at a discounted rate of $26 for Evanston and Skokie residents through June 7.

Lovelace Park Tennis Court Resurfacing

The Lovelace Park tennis courts are currently being resurfaced, and are expected to be completed by the beginning of June. During construction, the courts will be closed and not available for use.
