Each year, starting in the spring, Evanston’s more than 300 unpaved alleys are periodically graded by the City to eliminate potholes and ruts caused by vehicles, weather and other factors. The process improves travel and reduces puddling. Find out when your alley zone is scheduled to be graded by viewing the 2019 Alley Maintenance map or calling/texting 847-448-4311.
Clear Your Clutter: Spring Bulk Trash Pickups Take Place Fridays, April 5-26
The City's Public Works Agency offers residents the free removal of up to six cubic yards of bulk garbage twice per year. Spring 2019 bulk trash pickups will take place on Fridays, April 5 through 26, and are scheduled according to residents' normal refuse pickup day. View the schedule and pickup guidelines.
Workshop: Property Taxes in Evanston
Fritz Kaegi, recently elected Cook County Assessor, will be a guest speaker on Property Taxes in Evanston at the CSNA Annual Meeting Thurs., March 28, 6 p.m., at Three Crowns Park, 2323 McDaniel Ave., Multi-purpose Room. All Evanston residents are invited. The Assessor sets the property values on which taxes in Evanston and other townships are based, and hears appeals from those valuations.
Seating will be limited to the first 150.

Changes to Parking Rates Took Effect
Changes to street parking and surface lot rates in Evanston took effect on March 1 as part of the City's 2019 adopted budget. The cost of parking at a two-hour meter or pay station is now $1.50 per hour. Payment is also required on Sundays, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Drivers can get $5 of free parking by using the Park Evanston mobile app. Now through May 31, app users who load $20 into their mobile wallet will receive $5 in free parking.
Apply to Evanston's Cultural Fund Grant Program by April 1
Arts organizations are invited to apply to the City of Evanston’s Cultural Fund Grant Program. The Cultural Fund, administered by the Evanston Arts Council, supports artistic excellence throughout the community by providing financial assistance to not-for-profit arts organizations for operational costs or projects. Applications must be submitted online at cityofevanston.org/culturalfund by Monday, April 1, 2019 at 5 p.m.

New Rental Registration Options for Evanston Property Owners!
The City now allows for property owners to rent their coach houses/accessory dwelling units to people who are not related to the family in the primary home. Additionally, property owners who are renting unregistered eligible properties will not be subject to fines during the "amnesty period" that ends on May 31, 2019.
Free Income Tax Preparation Assistance
The Evanston Public Library is offering free tax preparation assistance for households earning up to $55,000 and individualsearning up to $30,000 annually. This service is provided by the Center for Economic Progress. Tax preparation is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Assistance is offered on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., through April 13, at the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
Evanston Scholars Applications Due April 18
Evanston Scholars calls on high school sophomores to apply to Evanston Scholars. Applications are being accepted trough April 18.
Evanston Scholars is a non-profit organization that improves college access and success for a diverse group of Evanston students who are traditionally first-generation college entrants, low-income students, and students of color, starting with the college admissions process and continuing through college graduation.
The comprehensive, six-year program offers workshops, mentors, ACT prep, and college counseling to support students with financial and/or academic needs.

Evanston Public Library Offers Access to Streaming Service
The Evanston Public Library is now offering free access to Kanopy, an all-movie streaming service. Kanopy brings more than 30,000 of the world’s best films to stream on computers, tablets, and other mobile devices.
