Property Tax Appeal Seminar Tonight

Learn how to appeal your proposed property assessment with the Cook County Assessor's Office at a free seminar hosted by Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin tonight, Thurs., March 21, 6:30 p.m., in the Morton Civic Center's City Council Chambers. Attendees should bring a copy of their property tax bill or their property index number (PIN). If you're unable to attend the meeting, you can also watch live on Channel 16. The video recording will be available on the City's YouTube channel on Friday.

Food and Yard Waste Collection Begins April 1

Food and Yard Waste


The City will begin weekly food and yard waste collections for the 2019 season on Mon., April 1. Collections will occur on residents' regular refuse and recycling collection day. As part of the City's expanded composting program, food scraps can now ride along with grass clippings and leaves in food and yard waste carts or can be picked up by Collective Resource, the City's exclusive food scrap hauler. Food scraps should not be placed in paper yard waste bags.

Clear Your Clutter: Spring Bulk Trash Pickups Take Place Fridays, April 5-26

The City's Public Works Agency offers residents the free removal of up to six cubic yards of bulk garbage twice per year. Spring 2019 bulk trash pickups will take place on Fridays, April 5 through 26, and are scheduled according to residents' normal refuse pickup day. View the schedule and pickup guidelines.

2019 Alley Maintenance Schedule Available

Each year, starting in the spring, Evanston’s more than 300 unpaved alleys are periodically graded by the City to eliminate potholes and ruts caused by vehicles, weather and other factors. The process improves travel and reduces puddling. Find out when your alley zone is scheduled to be graded by viewing the 2019 Alley Maintenance map or calling/texting 847-448-4311.

Enroll In the City's Private Elm Tree Insurance Program

Elm Tree

Enrollment is now open for the City's Private Elm Tree Insurance Program, which covers the removal of elm trees on private property lost due to Dutch elm disease (DED). The program also provides free testing of insured elms if DED symptoms appear. The deadline to enroll is Fri., May 31.

New Rental Option for Evanston Property Owners

House for Rent

To help expand affordable housing options in Evanston, the City has removed the restriction on renting coach houses and accessory dwelling units to people who aren't related to the family in the primary home. Interested property owners must register their unit.
