The Jewish Film Festival is Coming to Downtown Evanston

Jewish Film Festival

Now in its 6th year, the festival, which runs through March 17, features 43 films at venues across the city and suburbs. This year, there are 30 screenings at Century 12 Evanston and CineArts 6 theaters in downtown Evanston including 11 insightful talkbacks by those instrumental to the films.

Downtown Evanston Thursday Night Live Call for Musicians!

Thursday night call for artists

Thursday Night Live will transform the newly renovated, world-class Fountain Square plaza into an outdoor family-friendly music venue. Crowds gather at 6:30 p.m. and live music plays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
 
Thursday Night Live is a free event and all ages are welcome to attend. This series typically brings 300 residents, office workers, NU students and visitors from surrounding communities to enjoy the music and explore the many unique restaurants and shops in downtown Evanston.

Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program

The 2019 Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program job fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sat., March 16 at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Ave. Doors will close at noon. Those interested in participating in the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program are required to attend this year's job fair for eligibility for employment through the City and affiliated organizations.

Changes to Parking Rates

Changes to street parking and surface lot rates in Evanston changed as part of the City's 2019 adopted budget. The cost of parking at a two-hour meter or pay station are now $1.50 per hour. Payment is also required on Sundays, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Drivers can get $5 of free parking by using the Park Evanston mobile app. Now through May 31, app users who load $20 into their mobile wallet will receive $5 in free parking. 


Apply to Evanston's Cultural Fund Grant Program by April 1

Arts organizations are invited to apply to the City of Evanston’s Cultural Fund Grant Program. The Cultural Fund, administered by the Evanston Arts Council, supports artistic excellence throughout the community by providing financial assistance to not-for-profit arts organizations for operational costs or projects. Applications must be submitted online at cityofevanston.org/culturalfund by Mon., April 1, 2019 at 5 p.m.

"Nearly a quarter of Evanston businesses were minority-owned in 2012, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau. These businesses have a supportive relationship with one another, as well as the larger Evanston business community, according to Hecky Powell. Powell opened Hecky’s Barbecue in Evanston nearly 36 years ago, and as a black business owner, he emphasized the supportive relationship he had with other business owners in the city."
