Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebrations this Weekend

Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Evanston! Events this weekend include a Day of Celebration and Evanston Unity at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, drop-in crafts and film screenings at the Evanston Public Library, Y.O.U.'s Diverse Communities United, Northwestern University candlelight vigil, and many more.

Mayor Hagerty Details NU Good Neighbor Fund Support for Career Training Initiatives

In an effort to ensure that all Evanston residents have pathways to success, Mayor Stephen Hagerty and Northwestern President Morton Schapiro have allocated $225,000 to support career training and workforce development programs in Evanston in 2019 as part of Northwestern’s $1 million contribution to the City’s Good Neighbor Fund.

2019 Summer Camp Guide Now Available

It's only January, but it's already time to start thinking about summer camps! The 2019 Summer Camp Guide is now available online and at Evanston community centers. Camp registration for Evanston residents begins on Sat., Feb. 2, 8 a.m. to noon, online and in-person at the Levy Senior Center.

Gibbs-Morrison Reboot this Saturday

Attend the Gibbs-Morrison Reboot this Sat., Jan. 19, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature a panel discussion with producers RIO and Fresh, who have written and produced for major artists, including Beyoncé, Rihanna, French Montana and more. A live music performance from R&B artist Slique Jay Adams will follow.

9th Ward Meeting 1/24

Ald. Cicely Fleming will host a 9th Ward meeting on Thurs., Jan. 24, 7 p.m., at Pope John XXIII School.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Schedule

The Morton Civic Center will be closed on Mon., Jan. 21 for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. No trash or recycling collections will occur; Monday through Thursday collections will be delayed by one day next week.

Evanston Public Library Offers Access to Streaming Service

The Evanston Public Library is now offering free access to Kanopy, an all-movie streaming service. Kanopy brings more than 30,000 of the world’s best films to stream on computers, tablets, and other mobile devices.

Officer & Gentlemen Academy Kickoff 1/26

Attend the 3rd Annual Kickoff for the Officer and Gentlemen Academy on Sat., Jan. 26, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the J.E.H. Education Center. The O&G Academy aims to “educate, inspire, and empower young men to reach their full potential.”
