Transportation/Parking Committee to Discuss Ordinance 85-O-11

“Ordinance 85-O-11 amending Title 10, Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Chapter 11, Traffic Schedules, Section 11: Schedule XVIII; Residents Parking Only Districts, (Q). District S: eight o’clock (8:00) A.M. to six o’clock (6:00) P.M. Monday through Saturday for 2500 block of Hurd Avenue”

Over the summer, staff conducted an area parking study in the Central/Central Park business area and surrounding streets. A neighborhood meeting was held on September 20, 2018 to discuss this and previous studies which are posted here. The residents of the District S in attendance at this meeting made it clear that they do not support any diminution of the restriction.

At the next Transportation/Parking Committee meeting there will be a discussion about changing the S District to include all Evanston residents and to review this change after six months. After hearing from the community, it is in my opinion, that this is the most fair and equitable solution to issue of Central Street customer and employee parking that led to the creation of the zone in 2011. Employees and customers of Central Street businesses parking on adjacent residential streets is not unique to this block.

I have met with residents who have similar issues on their blocks adjacent to Central Street as well. I support a comprehensive citywide parking study.

As you can see from the map below, Evanston Resident Only will remain as the most restrictive parking in the area.

The decision on this matter will be made at the recommendation of the Transportation/Parking Committee and a City Council vote.

The next meeting of this committee will take place on Wednesday, October 24, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Morton Civic Center, Room 2404, 2100 Ridge Avenue.

Provide Input on the 2019 Proposed Budget

Evanston's 2019 Proposed Budget is now available. New this year, community members can submit their plans for a balanced budget using the City's Balancing Act budget simulator. The City is also hosting informal budget discussions at locations throughout the community through Thurs., Oct. 25. Visit the City's budget webpage to learn more.

Early Voting Begins October 22 at the Morton Civic Center

Early voting and voter registration for the gubernatorial election will be available at the Morton Civic Center, Room G300, beginning Mon., Oct. 22 through Mon., Nov. 5. Election Day is Tues., Nov. 6.

EPL 4th Annual Storytelling Festival 10/19-21

Celebrate the art and power of storytelling at the Evanston Public Library and nearby venues during the 4th annual Storytelling Festival! The fest will take place Fri., Oct. 19 through Sun., Oct. 21. All events are free.

Informal discussions regarding the proposed Fiscal Year 2019 budget will be held throughout Evanston between October 9 and 24. Community members are invited to meet with City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz and staff from the City Manager's Office to provide their comments and feedback.

Street Light Master Plan Project Meeting November 1

The City of Evanston will host a public meeting to discuss the Street Light Master Plan project on Thursday, November 1, 7 p.m., at the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, Parasol Room (4th floor), 2100 Ridge Avenue.

The goal of the Street Light Master Plan project is to develop a plan that identifies ways to meet the community's future street lighting needs in a manner that reflects the community’s values as well as the context of the surrounding built and natural environments.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Learning for Living Healthy on 10/21

Learn from oncologists, nutritionists, and cancer patients how to use powerful tools to manage and survive cancer. This program is brough to you by the Evanston Public Library. The event will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center, 1823 Church Street.

Evanston is excited to announce the expansion of the Divvy for Everyone (D4E) program! Income- or age-eligible residents now qualify for discounted annual Divvy membership. The membership is only $5 for the entire first year as part of the D4E program.

City Seeks Public Comment on 2019 Action Plan

The City of Evanston’s Housing & Community Development Act Committee will hold a public meeting to hear comment on the 2019 Action Plan on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 7 p.m. in Room 2402 of the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Avenue. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.

The 2019 Action Plan outlines how the City’s estimated 2019 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Investment Partnership (HOME) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds, along with program income and unspent CDBG funds from prior years, will be used to improve the quality of life primarily for low and moderate income Evanston residents. Police Chief Recruitment

On July 9, 2018, Police Chief Rich Eddington announced his intent to retire in December 2018. In preparation for that, staff reached out to five executive search recruitment firms to solicit bids for conducting a nationwide search to fill this position. Three bids were received and the City is moving forward with vendor GovHR (630 Dundee Road, Northbrook, Illinois) with a contract in the amount of $19,500.

Robert Crown Center's Fall Flea Market on 11/3

Community members can find great bargains at Robert Crown Community Center's annual Fall Flea Market on Saturday, November 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The annual market is known to connect people who are looking to resell items, bargain, and believe in the three Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle.

Tables can be rented for $35 to sell items at the market. Those interested in renting a table should contact Gladys Flores at 847-448-8258 or gflores@cityofevanston.org.
