Services for Mayor Lorraine H. Morton
The City of Evanston joins the community in mourning the loss of beloved former Mayor Lorraine H. Morton, who died on September 8 at the age of 99. Services for Mayor Morton will take place this weekend and are open to the community:
Visitation - Fri., Sept. 21, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., First Church of God Christian Life Center, 1524 Simpson St.
Funeral Service - Sat., Sept. 22, 11 a.m., Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Rd.
The City has relocated its area of honor for Mayor Morton to the Fleetwood-Jourdain Art Gallery on the 2nd floor of the Morton Civic Center. Community members are invited to visit and sign a book of remembrance during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., through this Fri., Sept. 21.
Bike the Ridge On September 30
Pedal up and down Ridge Avenue, from Howard to Church Streets, during Bike the Ridge! The free event will take place on Sun., Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy live music from the Evanston School of Rock; a variety of food trucks; bike registration, repairs and decorating; and free bike helmets while supplies last.
Registration Now Open for Zombie Scramble
The Zombie Scramble is a scary good time! Join your family and friends as you attempt to complete a 2-mile course through the Ladd Arboretum, Twiggs and Butler Parks without becoming "infected" by roaming zombies. Early bird registration is now open for the 5th annual event, which will take place on Sat., Oct. 20.
Reminder On City Leaf Blowing Ordinance
Backpack-mounted or hand-held gasoline-powered leaf blowers are allowed for use between September 30 and the first Thursday of December on weekdays, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Sunday and holidays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
September is National Preparedness Month
The City is reminding residents of ways to prepare for emergencies as part of National Preparedness Month. Due to ongoing response to Hurricane Florence, FEMA has rescheduled its test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system until Wed., Oct. 3.
Tour Evanston's Water Treatment Facility
The City will host two tours of its Water Treatment Facility on Saturday, October 6! The first tour will take place at 9 a.m. for those 15 years and older, followed by a child-friendly tour at 11 a.m. Register today to reserve your spot.

Yard waste bag stickers can now be purchased at the vending machine at Chandler-Newberger Community Center, 1028 Central Street.
Storm Water Management Plan Report Public Meeting
The City of Evanston welcomes public comments on its 2018 Storm Water Management Plan Annual Facility Inspection Report.
This annual report explains the safeguards and best management practices the City employed to help protect Lake Michigan and the North Shore Channel from storm water discharge.
