Asphalt Pavement Crack Sealing Program to Begin September 17

Approximately 190,000 linear feet of cracks in asphalt pavement are anticipated to be sealed as part of the City's Asphalt Pavement Crack Sealing Program. Work will begin the week of September 17, 2018 and is expected to take two to three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

A map of sealing locations can be found in the attached project newsletter. Priority locations will be completed first, followed by secondary locations, as funding allows.

During crack sealing activities, motorists should expect minor delays near work zones as flaggers route traffic around the work crews. Delays should be short in duration and specific to the daily work zones. In addition, certain areas may be posted for “No Parking” in order for contractors to have a clear work zone to apply the material. “No Parking” signs will be posted 48 hours in advance of when parking restrictions are enforced and will be removed as soon as work is completed.

This project will grind out sections of longitudinal and transverse cracks that have reflected through to the surface of the street. After cracks are routed, a fluid rubberized sealing material is injected back into the crack to seal it against water infiltration; an important step in preserving pavement infrastructure. After the contractor finishes, the street will be immediately ready for traffic. The work in each location should take approximately one to four hours to complete.
