City to Begin Construction of Water Meter Vault at Emerson St. and McCormick Blvd. August 6
The City of Evanston will begin construction of a new water meter vault located east of McCormick Boulevard and north of Emerson Street during the week of August 6. The work is part of a project to establish water supply to the Morton Grove / Niles Water Commission (MGNWC). A map of the work area can be found in the attached newsletter.
Work by the City of Evanston will include construction of a new below-grade meter vault as well as installation of a new fiber optic communications cable to the Ecology Center. Once the meter vault is in place, a contractor managed by MGNWC will construct a pipeline that will connect to the vault from Emerson Street.
During construction, a temporary multi-use path will be built around the work site to maintain pedestrian traffic through the south end of the Ladd Arboretum. Contractors are working closely with the City’s Forestry Division to minimize disruption to the Arboretum during the project. A portion of the east lane of McCormick Boulevard north of Emerson Street will also be used for construction staging.
Construction of the meter vault will be complete by December 2018, and construction of the pipeline connection will follow. Temporary site restoration will be completed as soon as construction concludes. Final restoration of the site will be completed by May 17, 2019.
Contractor
The contractor for the meter vault project is Bolder Contractors, Inc., 316 Cary Point Dr., Cary. The MGNWC contractor for the pipeline connection is Berger Excavating Contractors, Inc., 101 West Grand Ave., Chicago.
