Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for Drugs and Firearm

EVANSTON, IL - On Friday, July 27, 2018 at 9:52 p.m. Evanston Officers were on patrol in the area of Hull Terrace and Barton Avenue when they observed a vehicle disobey a stop sign.  The officers stopped the vehicle in the 300 block of Ridge Avenue and upon approaching the vehicle detected the odor of unburnt cannabis coming from inside.  

A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded Springfield Arms .45 caliber handgun and approximately 112 grams of suspect Cannabis from a book bag that was on the front passenger seat of the vehicle and belonged to the driver, now identified as Samuel Thomas.  

Thomas was transported to the Evanston Police Department and charged with the below offenses.  A photograph of the recovered firearm is attached to this release for legitimate media publications only.

Charges 

1ct. Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon - Class 4 Felony

1ct. Delivery of Cannabis - Class 4 Felony

1ct. Delivery of Cannbis - Class A Misdemeanor

1ct.  Disobeyed Stop Sign - Traffic Offense
