Pavement Striping and Marking Work to Begin July 9

The City of Evanston will be placing and refreshing pavement striping and markings in northwest Evanston beginning the week of July 9, 2018. Crews will also be striping areas throughout the city that were removed due to asphalt pavement patching this past spring.

This scheduled work should be completed within six weeks, weather permitting. Pavement striping and marking in northwest Evanston will take place in the area west of Green Bay Road and McCormick Boulevard and north of Elgin/Golf Road.

During striping activities, motorists should expect minor delays near work zones as flaggers route traffic around striping crews. These delays should be short in duration and specific to the daily work zones. In addition, certain areas may be posted for “No Parking” in order for contractors to have a clear work zone to apply the material. “No Parking” signs will be posted 48 hours in advance of when restrictions are enforced and will be removed as soon as work is completed.

Pavement markings are used to inform and guide motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. They convey messages to roadway users, indicating which part of the road to use, providing information about conditions ahead, and indicating where passing or parking is allowed.

The majority of the work will be completed using thermoplastic striping material. Thermoplastic striping is a type of reflectorized pavement marking material that is applied to the surface of the pavement through a heat fusion process. Markings are expected to last 3-5 years depending on traffic volumes and pavement conditions.

This work is anticipated to improve the condition of pavement markings at over 175 locations. A map and schedule for pavement striping/marking is attached.

Contractor
The contractor for this project is Precision Pavement Markings, Inc. 955 Grace St, Elgin. The contractor is contractually responsible for the means and methods of the work.
