Evanston Police Arrest Man for Skokie Home Invasion and Recover a Handgun

EVANSTON, IL - On June 27, at 2:31 p.m. Evanston Police Tactical Detectives were in the area of the 2100 block of Wesley when they observed an Evanston man, Jeilin Harris-Thomas, wanted in connection with a Skokie home invasion. Detectives observed Harris-Thomas enter a vehicle as a passenger. Detectives observed the vehicle fail to use a turn signal and stopped the vehicle in the 1400 block of Noyes St. 

Upon stopping the vehicle they learned Harris-Thomas was the passenger in an Uber. There was an odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. Detectives investigated further and recovered a loaded Taurus 45 caliber handgun, other ammunition, and approximately 2 grams of cannabis.  The handgun was in a bag the Detectives observed Harris-Thomas carrying into the Uber.

Harris-Thomas was arrested and transported to the station. Harris-Thomas did not have a FOID Card or Concealed Carry License. The Uber driver denied knowledge of the gun. The Uber driver was cited for failure to signal when required. 

Further investigation into the home invasion was performed by the Skokie Police Department.

Charges

1 felony count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon 

2 misdemeanor counts for FOID violations.
