Week 5 Challenges

sugar

1. Participate in a WOW activity you've never done before.

Hope to see you at something new this week!

2. Low sugar challenge! - consume less than 24 grams of added sugar per day this week.
Added sugar is any sugar that is put into food during processing; it does not include naturally occurring sugars like those in fruit and milk.  Treats like cookies/cake, ice cream, soda and candy have added sugar.  Be aware of added sugar in non-dessert foods like condiments (ketchup, salad dressing, bbq sauce), flavored yogurt, granola bars, cereals, and others! To identify added sugar, read the ingredient list and the nutrition label!

High added sugar consumption is considered to be an independent risk factor for many chronic diseases.

Tried and True Healthy Recipe

Check out this recipe shared in the Week 1 Challenge by WOW participant Angel Schnur (recipe from Woman's Day Magazine).  I love it because it is a great way to get your greens- and beans - in one dish!  Also, who doesn't love polenta?  Thanks, Angel!
