Free Procurement 101 Workshop May 11
The City will host its 6th annual Evanston Procurement 101 workshop onFri., May 11, 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the Morton Civic Center. Local businesses and contractors can learn how they can do business with Evanston's large organizations.
Home Buyer Education: Credit and Budgeting on May 12
The Housing Opportunity Development Corporation (HODC) First Time Home Buyer Education program is offered as a series of three workshops designed to empower future homeowners in the homebuying process. The sessions cover readiness to purchase a home, how to manage credit and create a budget, and what to expect during the closing process. Participants also will be provided information about fair housing.
Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion valid for one year required for most down payment assistance programs.
Participation is free but pre‐registration is mandatory.
Evanston Arts Council Calls for 'Pop-Up' Temporary Art by May 15
The Evanston Arts Council is issuing a call for artists to submit applications for “pop-up” temporary displays of artwork or performances of public art throughout Evanston during summer 2018. The Arts Council will provide three grants of up to $1,000 each for projects that must take place betweenJune 10 and August 31, 2018.
In visual arts, preference may be given to work that has already been completed. Conceptual proposals will be considered if the artwork can be completed within the presented timeline, and applications are submitted with clear and detailed specifications and renderings.
Submissions must be emailed with attachments tojlasik@cityofevanston.orgbyMay 15, 2018. Applicants will be notified byJune 1, 2018.

'A Home on the Lake' On Stage until May 20
Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre and Piven Theatre Workshop present "A Home on the Lake," a play about two Evanston families in two eras whose lives are disrupted by matters of property and race.
Priority-based Budgeting Open House
Residents will have the opportunity to learn more about and offer input on the City's priority-based budgeting process in person at an open house meeting on Thursday, May 24, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., in Room G300 of the Morton Civic Center.
An online and paper survey will be available from May 10 through June 7 for community members to share their priorities with the City. In addition, budget-related ideas may be submitted to City staff though the following channels:
Enroll in the 2018 Private Elm Tree Insurance Program by Thurs., May 31! The program covers the removal of elm trees on private property lost due to Dutch elm Disease (DED).
2018 Season Beach Tokens Now Available
The beach season is set to begin onSat., May 26!A beach token, also known as a season pass, is valid from the time of purchase through Labor Day, Mon., Sept. 3. Tokens will be sold at a discounted rate of $26 for Evanston and Skokie residents and $42 for nonresidents through Fri., June 8. On Sat., June 9, the price for a beach token will increase to $34 for Evanston and Skokie residents and $58 for nonresidents.
