Pre-Mother's Day Prayer Breakfast May 12

Join Rev. Rosalind Shorter Henderson of Bethel AME Church, 1744 Darrow Ave., on Sat., May 12, from 9 a.m. to noon for a special Pre-Mother's Day prayer breakfast. This year's theme is "Seeking God's Divine Wisdom."  Admission: $15 donation. For more information visit www.bethelevanstonamec.org.


A Weekend of Power, Purpose and Praise May 18-20

Women of Worth


Rev. Dr. Taurus K. Scurlock and the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church's Women of Worth presents "A Weekend of Power, Purpose and Praise," May 18-20. The event includes a Women's Revival on Fri., May 18, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with speaker Apostle Angela Thibeaux; a Women's Fellowship with speakers from Women of Mount Zion on Sat., May 19, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Women's Day on Sun., May 20 beginning at 10:45 a.m., with speaker Rev Dr. Kimberly Johnson. The events are free.


Inaugural Empowerment Breakfast May 19

Officer & Gentlemen Academy

Please join the Evanston Police Department for the Officer & Gentlemen Academy’s (OGA) Inaugural Empowerment Breakfast and Awards Ceremony. This breakfast will be held on Sat. May 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hilton Garden Inn of Evanston, 1818 Maple Ave. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Michael Nabors of Second Baptist Church and Mayor Stephen H. Hagerty will present the OGA Quintessential Gentlemen Award to one of the program's participants.

Tickets are $40 and may be purchased until May 14. All ticket proceeds will go towards the expansion of the OGA program.

Live in Concert at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church June 2

Rev. Dr. Emmitt T Williams III of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 1801 Emerson St., invites you to a live concert and sermon on Sat., June 2. The concert begins at 5:30 p.m., with special guests Pastor Dwayne McDaniel as Master of Ceremony, Stars of Heaven, and Dean Jones & Company. Tickets: $10 donation.

Evanston Sings June 8

Evanston Sings 2018


Evanston Own It will host its annual “Evanston Sings” community choir concert on Fri., June 8, 7 p.m., at the Evanston Township High School Auditorium, 1600 Dodge Ave. New this year is a vendor fair beginning at 5 p.m. for early shopping. 

General admission tickets are $10 and Youth and Senior admission tickets are $5. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at Ebony Barbershop or Church Street Barbershop and churches in the 2nd and 5th Wards.  

All proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Evanston Summer Youth Program.  


HELPS Conference June 28-30

All are welcome to the third annual HELPS Conference, hosted by the First Church of God Christian Life Center, 1524 Simpson St., from June 28 to June 30.

The HELPS Conference is designed to provide strength and strategies to those who serve others in our churches and in our community. These "behind the scenes" heroes often go unnoticed, but the conference truly celebrates those who faithfully labor to do good. 

Single registration is $50, group rate of 10 or more is $45 per registration.
