 EVANSTON, IL - On Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 1:54 a.m. Evanston Police Officers arrested a man with a handgun and less than 2.5 grams of cannabis.
Officers were in the area the 500 block of Sheridan Rd. when they observed a gray Nissan with registration suspended for an insurance violation. Officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, James Fulton. While officers were speaking to Fulton they detected an odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. Officers investigated and Fulton admitted to the officers that he had smoked cannabis earlier and was in possession of a handgun. The investigation revealed that Fulton did have a FOID card but did not have a Concealed Carry License. Fulton stated that he had the gun for protection since the was a delivery driver.
Officers recovered a cannabis cigar from inside the vehicle. Officers recovered a loaded Jennings model J-22, .22 caliber, handgun from Fulton's person.

Fulton received a $30,0000 I-bond. The next court date is May 8, 2018 at Skokie Court House in room 105.
