Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you can join me on Thursday, January 18, 7 p.m. at the Levy Center, 300 Dodge Ave. This will be an informational meeting for all to get an understanding of the Gateway Chicago project for which a map amendment, special use and planned development is required. There is a brief explanation below.
In addition, there will be updates on some other exciting and positive things taking place in the 8th Ward:
Updates on Howard Street businesses, theater construction and new owners
Information on new food waste program
Canceling twice a month street cleaning.
Gateway Chicago Project
128-132 Chicago Ave. Planned Development Evanston Gateway, LLC. The building is proposed for the northwest corner of Chicago Ave. and Howard St.
Evanston Gateway, LLC, developer, proposes to construct a five-story mixed-use building with ground floor retail space, open sales yard, 26 dwelling units and 30 parking spaces. The retail space is proposed as an education-based lifestyle garden center, including interior retail and café space, in addition to outdoor space for the sale of live plants and garden supplies. The developer will be present to explain the proposal and welcome input from the neighborhood and all residents.
Legally required notices will be mailed to those taxpayers of properties within 1000 feet of the development, notifying them of the formal Plan Commission meetings, at which time there will be public hearings and detailed discussion of the project. The notice of the public meetings will be published on the City web site.
Expanded or New Businesses in the 8th Ward
Patisserie Coralie on Davis St. is expanding and opening CoralieSouth at 633 Howard St. Extensive renovations are under way. The bakery, breakfast and lunch café is scheduled to open in several weeks. More deliciousness will now be on Howard Street to fill the need for breakfast and lunch service. Welcome to Pascal Berthoumieux and his staff.
Jamaica Good to Go is transforming the 700 block of Howard Street. Lenice and Tony Levy, 8th Ward residents and owners of Good to Go, are in the final stages of moving their award-winning Jamaican restaurant into 711 Howard Street. The renovation of the property is amazing – stop by and see for yourself!
