A Bounty of Winter Break Programs for Children and Teens

Registration begins on Monday, December 11 at 9 AM for the following free children's programs held at the Main Library during Winter Break. Register online, in person, or call us at 847-448-8610. 

• Big Blue Block Building Party! (K – 2nd grades): Tuesday, December 26, 3 – 4 pm, Barbara Friedberg Storytelling Room. 
• Family Coding with mBots (Ages 6-10): Wednesday, December 27, 2017 1 – 2 pm or 3- 4 pm, Community Meeting Room
• Fantastical Felt Terrariums! (3rd – 5th)Thursday, December 28, 11 am
• Make a Cool Space Picture Frame (K-2) — and add in a picture of YOU on the moon! Friday, December 29, 11 am
• Little Explorers – Sea Life STEAM Program (ages 3-5): Tuesday, January 2, 10 – 11 am in the Barbara Friedberg Storytelling Room
• Inuit Stories and Crafts – January 3, 3:30 pm
• Magnus Chase Book Discussion: The Sword of Summer, Book One (3rd  – 5th Grades) Thursday, January 4,  1  – 2 pm in the Children’s Public Conference Room 

Special Drop In Events at the Main Library During Winter Break (registration not required): Beatles Party with stories and songs! Friday, January 5, 11 am – 12 pm in the First Floor Children’s Room. All ages welcome; books and crafts geared to 4 – 7 years old. Tabletop Game Afternoon (3-5 Grade) Friday, January 5, 1  – 3 pm in the Children’s Public Conference Room Plus – movies almost every afternoon! Come to the Winter Break Live Action Cartoon Festival at 2 pm most days. We're all in for great children's Winter Break programming all day long at the North Branch, 2026 Central St., (847-866-0330) and at the Chicago Ave./Main St. Branch, 900 Chicago Ave., (847-905-0764)

Teen Winter Break Programs

There's plenty for kids in grades 6 to 12 to do at the Main Library Loft during winter break. Just drop-in to read, play games, work on personal projects, and make cool DIY creations in our safe, fun, and friendly space just for teens. 

• Drop in Gaming: Everyday from 4 to 7 pm
• Teen DIY: Make a Keychain. All Loft Hours, Dec 23 - Jan 7
• First Look Book Group: Thursday, December 28, 5:30-6:30 pm
• Movie Screening: Spiderman Homecoming, Wednesday, January 3, 1 pm
• Anime Club, Thursday, January 4, 6:30-8 pm
• Super Smash Bros Tournament, Friday, January 5, 2-4 pm

Holiday Closings and Children's Program Cancellations

All locations of the Evanston Public Library will be closed on December 24, December 25,  and January 1.  Preschool Storytime and the Young and the Restless storytimes will take a break over the holiday. View holiday cancellations.
