Help Us Build Bridges over the Digital Divide

Lola Hotspot User

There is a gap between those who have and those who don't have computers and internet at home. EPL constantly explores the frontiers of what equitable access to resources means for Evanstonians. We believe we must build bridges over this digital divide.

The Library now lends Wi-Fi hot spots: portable devices that give patrons free internet service at home. Since starting the program in May 2016, the hot spots have been checked out 1200 times. Library card holders, like Lola Ittner, can bring home a hot spot for four weeks..

“I love this program,” says Lola, who does not have reliable access to the internet.

Gregory, a 17 year old ETHS senior who lives with his grandfather and wants to become a firefighter, says the Wi-Fi hot spot is the "best thing I've ever heard about." An almost daily library user, Greg has no internet at home and uses the device for both homework and leisure.

Supporting the Fund for Excellence helps give cardholders like Lola and Greg the chance to bridge the digital divide with critical online access. Please make a gift today.
