OFFENDER ARRESTED IN SHOT FIRED INCIDENT  

On Thursday, October 19, 2017 at approximately 2:38 PM, officers responded to the area of the 400 block of Custer Avenue for a report of shots being fired.  The caller described one of the subjects involved as being a male/Hispanic wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and was last seen on foot running southbound on Sherman Avenue.  An officer responding to the scene, observed a subject, now identified as Ulises Barrera, running in the 300 block of Sherman Avenue.  The officer was able to detain Barrera until assistance arrived.  A check of a backpack that Barrera was carrying revealed a loaded Zastava 9mm handgun.  

Responding officers also located a victim, who is a male, 22 years old from Chicago.  The victim stated that he has been involved in an on-going dispute with Bruno Aguilar and Barrera.  While driving northbound in the west alley of the 400 block of Custer Avenue, a southbound vehicle that was being driven by Aguilar pulled in front of him.  The victim stated that he observed Barrera who was in the front passenger seat point a handgun at him.  The victim stated that he rammed the vehicle and attempted to turn around and go southbound when Barrera fired one shot at him.    

Aguilar, who was taken into custody on scene, along with Barrera were both transported to the Evanston Police Department and after further investigation were both charged with felony Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
