EVANSTON POLICE RECOVER TWO HANDGUNS IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS

Officers recovered two handguns in separate incidents.  The first incident occurred on Friday, August 25, 2017 at approximately 10:55PM after detectives from the Tactical Unit observed a sport utility vehicle in the 600 block of Howard Street with the rear registration light out and further observed one of the passengers not wearing a seat belt.  They conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 7400 block of Seeley Avenue, Chicago.  Upon stopping the vehicle, they observed the rear seat passenger throw a handgun into the open rear trunk area of the vehicle.  The rear seat passenger, a 16 year old male juvenile from Chicago, then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by the detectives.  The gun, a loaded Glock .40 caliber was recovered by the detectives.  The driver a 34 year old male from Evanston was given a traffic citation for the registration light violation.  The front seat passenger a 37 year old male from Chicago was released without charges.  The male juvenile was charged with one count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon and transported to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago.  Due to his status as a juvenile, no further information can be provided.  A photograph of the recovered handgun is attached to this release for legitimate media publications only.   

 

The second incident occurred on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at approximately 12:10AM in the 1800 block of Ashland Avenue.  Officers on patrol in the west alley observed a group of subjects in the alley.  As they drove by, they observed one of the subjects wearing all black with the handle of a handgun protruding from the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt.  The subject, now identified as Anthony Henley, fled on foot eastbound through the yards.  The officers located Henley hiding in bushes in front of a residence in the 1800 block of Ashland Avenue, where they were also able to recover a loaded Ruger .380 caliber handgun.  Henley was charged with the below offenses.  A photograph of the recovered handgun is attached to this release for legitimate media publications only.
