CommUNITY Picnic at Ingraham Park August 20

CommUNITY Picnic


Bring the whole family to the 2017 CommUNITY Picnic on Sunday, August 20, noon to 4 p.m., in Ingraham Park (located just west of the Morton Civic Center)! Activities will include 3-on-3 basketball, face painting and temporary tattoos, a photo booth, critters and pollinators from the Evanston Ecology Center, free food, and much more. Entertainment will include live music from Suite Molly Seven, as well as performances by the Jesse White Tumblers and balloon artist Tony Wright.

New this year: The 5th Ward Planning Committee is hosting a Community Mixer inside the Morton Civic Center from noon to 3 p.m. The event is open to all community members and registration is requested.

Free Beach Day for Teens and Young Adults August 10

Free teen beach day

Summer isn't over yet! Teens and young adults can enjoy DJ music, volleyball, food and drinks at Clark Street Beach this Thursday, August 10! Youth ages 12 to 15 years can join the fun from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by teens ages 16 through 19 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

Tickets are now on sale for Lanie Robertson's “Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill,” the final mainstage play in Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre’s Summertime Season. The play recounts Billie Holiday's life story through the songs that made her famous. Through her poignant voice and moving songs, one of the greatest jazz singers of all time shares her loves and her losses. Performances will take place August 12 through August 27 on Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.

Levy Center Closed this Week

Levy Senior Center Exterior


The Levy Center will be closed for all programs and activities this week, Monday, August 7 through Friday, August 11. The Center will be open for lunch and to purchase taxi coupons, wheel tax, beach tokens and yard waste stickers from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The bus will run as usual. Parking is available on Dodge Avenue.

The Levy Senior Center parking lot is being resurfaced as part of the City’s 2017 Parking Lot Improvement Project. The lot will be completely closed to the public from August 7 to August 11. From August 12 to September 15, parking lot construction will be staged to allow parking in approximately half of the parking lot at a time. Thank you for your patience as we make these important improvements.

Delores A. Holmes Recording Studio Rentals

Delores Holmes Recording Studio


The Delores A. Holmes Recording Studio in the Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center, 1823 Church St., is open to the public for private rental sessions. A minimum of a two-hour reservation is required per session; the cost is $35 an hour for residents or $45 for non-residents. With a valid student ID, Northwestern University and ETHS students may receive a discounted rate. For more information, call 847-448-8040.
