Celebrate National Parks & Recreation Month!

Celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month with the Levy Center this July with fun, free outdoor activities. Join us!

Monday, July 10, 2 p.m.
Play pickleball on the James Park tennis courts. Program Coordinator Bob Russo will explain the sport of pickleball and how to check out equipment from the Levy Center.

Monday, July 31, 1 p.m.
Enjoy "lemonade and laughs" with Program Coordinator Leslie Wilson in the Levy Center Garden.


"The Bridges of Madison County" July 19

On Wed., July 19, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., join the Levy Center on a trip to The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire for "The Bridges of Madison County." This stunning two-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical features gorgeous, soulful music by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years, Parade, Songs for a New World) and a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman (The Secret Garden, The Color Purple). Register online, by calling 847-448-8250, or by visiting the Levy Center front desk. When registering, select roasted salmon or chicken piccata for lunch. Scholarships are available for this program; stop by the front desk for details. The cost is $65 for Levy members and $80 for nonmembers. (Class # 524010)

Celebrate National Lollipop Day July 20!

Levy Center members will gather to celebrate National Lollipop Day on Thurs., July 20 at 1:30 p.m. by indulging in a lollipop. Do you remember when Shirley Temple sang On the Good Ship Lollipop or when you sang along with the Lollipop Guild in The Wizard of Oz? Share your stories with us!


Magician Greg Whalen Returns July 26

Magician Greg Whalen returns to the Levy Center for an encore performance on Wed., July 26 at 1 p.m.! Greg is a full-time professional entertainer with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre and over 20 years of experience performing magic and comedy. This is a free program; preregistration is required. Please call 847-448-8250 or stop by the Levy Center front desk.


Senior Olympic Basketball Teams Score!

Congratulations to the Levy Senior Center men's and women's Senior Olympic Basketball teams that competed in Alabama June 2 through June 15. The "Get Along Gals," who play out of the Levy Center and the Chandler-Newberger Center, won the silver medal in the age 60-64 category at the 2017 Senior Olympics. A second team, "The Hoopla Chicago," finished 16th out of 19 teams in the same category, adding "we may not have had many wins, but we gained a lot of experience and had a blast." Another women's team, the "North Stars," competed in the age 65-69 category.

The men’s teams included “The Threshers” in the 75+ division, and "The Peregrines” in the 70+ category. "The competition was fierce but each game ended with congratulations for a game well played," said Dorrance Halverson, a 70+ player and Levy Senior Center Foundation member. The Threshers won a bronze medal, finishing third in their division.

Thank you to the Levy Senior Center Foundation for sponsoring the teams to compete in the Senior Olympic Games!

Congratulations to Evanstonian Lewis Koppel for winning the Regional Senior Spelling Bee held at the Levy Center on June 16. Lewis now goes to Springfield to compete for the state title at the Illinois State Fair on Mon., Aug. 14. Congratulations and good luck to Lewis!


Shopping Day with the Levy Center Bus on Tuesdays through August 1

A pilot program hosted by the Levy Senior Center is featuring a new route with an additional shopping day on Tuesdays through August 1. The Levy Bus transports shoppers to and from Evanston Plaza (Dempster/Dodge), which houses Valli Produce, Dollar Tree, restaurants and more. The bus route will begin at 11 a.m. and return at 1:30 p.m. to pick up shoppers. The Wednesday shopping day to Food 4 Less on Main Street and the Jewel-Osco on Howard Street will continue without interruption.
