July 4th Activities, Parade, Fireworks and More!

Enjoy playground activities, a parade, a concert, fireworks and much more on Tues., July 4 as part of the Evanston Fourth of July Association’s Independence Day celebration!

Activities
Events will begin at 9 a.m. with roller skating and refreshments at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center and family playground activities at seven locations across the city. Children age 12 years and younger are also invited to take part in a half-mile fun run at 12:45 p.m. at Ackerman Park, located at Central St. and McDaniel Ave. Register online in advance or on race day from noon to 12:30 p.m.

Parade
The Evanston 4th of July Parade begins at 2 p.m. on Central St. at Central Park Ave. and travels east to Ryan Field. This year's parade theme is "Evanston's Heroes Are America's Heroes: Our First Responders."

Concert & Fireworks
The Palatine Concert Band will perform at Dawes Park from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Lakefront fireworks set to music will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.; tune in to FM 90.5. Fireworks are visible from most lakefront parks.

Parade Route Lawn Chair Reminder

Lawn chairs on July 4


Lawn chairs and blankets may be placed on the parkway along Central St. beginning at 6 a.m. on Sat., July 1. Chairs and blankets are not permitted on sidewalks or in the right-of-way. Please keep sidewalks safe for all users.


Holiday Service and Facility Schedules

Refuse collection truck


No refuse collections will occur on Tues., July 4. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday collections will occur one day later than usual next week. Collections on Mon., July 3 will occur as normal. 

Evanston 311 will be open for extended hours on July 4, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for community roller skating. All other City community centers, Evanston Public Library locations, and the Morton Civic Center will be closed on July 4. Learn more about holiday parking, facility, beach and boat launch hours on the City's website.

The City will host its seventh annual "Evanston Recycles" event on Sat., July 8, 9 a.m. to noon, at ETHS. The free “drive up, drop off” event provides residents an opportunity to recycle and donate a variety of items and securely shred documents.
