OFFENDER CHARGED WITH ARMED ROBBERY

On Monday, June 19, 2017 at approximately 4:49PM, officers were dispatched to the Jewel Food Store in the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue for a report of a retail theft that just occurred where one of the offenders was armed with a knife.  Upon arrival, employees advised that a male and female were observed in the liquor section concealing three bottles of alcohol valued at $61.78 into their backpacks.  Employees confronted the two offenders and asked them to put the liquor back, but the offenders continued to walk towards the exit door.  When the offenders approached the employees, the male offender opened up a pocket knife and held it out in front of his chest.  Fearing for their safety, the employees did not attempt to stop the offenders any further.  Officers responding to the incident located the offenders, now identified as Greg A. McCoy and Calendula Owens in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue where the alcohol and pocket knife were recovered.

Cook County State's Attorney's Office felony review was contacted and approved the below charges against McCoy and Owens.  Arrestee photographs of both McCoy and Owens are attached to this release for legitimate media purposes only.
