Hinman Avenue Sewer Improvements Begin May 8

Over the next month, the City will contract sewer improvements on Hinman Avenue, between Kedzie and Main Streets. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, May 8 and is expected to last three weeks, weather permitting.

Work will include installation of a sewer extension to the separate relief sewer that was installed on Kedzie Street in the early 2000s as part of the City’s Long Range Sewer Improvement Program. The relief sewer will collect stormwater runoff from the street that is now conveyed by the original combined sewer system that also collects domestic wastewater from nearby properties. This will reduce the frequency and magnitude of combined sewer surcharging during large rain events.

The sewer trench will initially be patched once the work is complete. This section of Hinman Avenue will be fully resurfaced this summer as part of the City’s annual Motor Fuel Tax-funded street resurfacing program under a separate contract.

Parking will be prohibited during daytime work hours, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Temporary construction zone "No Parking" signs will be posted at least 48 hours prior to the start of work. Street cleaning parking restrictions will be waived for a one-block radius around the construction zone when temporary daytime parking restrictions are in effect. This area includes the 700 and 900 blocks of Hinman Avenue; the 800 block of Judson Avenue; Kedzie Street between Chicago Avenue and Judson Avenue; and Main Street between Chicago Avenue and Judson Avenue.
