EVANSTON POLICE ARREST SUBJECT WITH HANDGUN

On Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at approximately 4:00 PM, members of the tactical unit conducted a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Emerson Street on a vehicle for a minor traffic violation.  After stopping the vehicle, the detectives observed the driver, now identified as Tyrone E. Gibbs, bend forward and reach down towards the floorboard of the vehicle.  As the detectives were speaking with Gibbs, he continued to look back down towards the floorboard of the vehicle.  After Gibbs exited the vehicle, a loaded Stoeger 9mm handgun was recovered from under the front drivers seat.  A check of the handgun revealed it to have been reported stolen in Waukegan, Illinois.  Gibbs was transported into the station and charged with the below offenses.
