Explore the Art of Jewelry and Glass Fusion!

Glass Art

This program will teach you how to make beautiful and unique paperweights, dishes, sun catchers, jewelry and pictures. The class fee includes six sessions of individualized instruction, some materials, and assembly of finished artwork.The cost is $53, Levy members; $68, nonmembers. Classes are offered on Wednesdays, beginning November 9, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and Thursdays, beginning November 10, from 10 a.m. to noon. (Class # 534106)

Ed Paschke: Cultural Icon, Artistic Innovator

Join Pat Rose as she talks about Historic Surrealist Painter Ed Paschke at 1 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 10. Pat and Ed were close friends and artistic associates for many years. He has been honored by the Art Institute of Chicago with his own street by the Museum: Ed Paschke Way. His work is represented in many museums and private collections worldwide. Preregistration is requested for this free program by calling the Levy Center at 847-448-8250.


Veterans Day November 11 - Movie and Popcorn: Red Tails

Italy, 1944. As the war takes its toll on Allied forces in Europe, a squadron of black pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen is finally given the chance to prove themselves in the sky—even as they battle discrimination on the ground. It’s a tribute to the unsung heroes who rose above extraordinary challenges and ultimately soared into history. "Red Tails" stars Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr. The movie begins at 12:30 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 11. Free for Veterans; $1 for Levy members; $5 for nonmembers.

The Evanston Commission on Aging invites community members to attend two free events in November exploring the theme, "Common Sense About Our Senses: Adapting to Age-Related Changes."

Learn why our senses (taste, smell, touch, vision and hearing) may become less acute and impact lifestyle, communication and enjoyment of activities as we age. Victoria Braund, MD, Director of Geriatric Medicine at NorthShore University HealthSystem, is the speaker for this program.

Join Megan Matteson from Citadel in Wilmette at 2 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 16 to create some easy desserts or appetizers to serve during the holiday season. This is a free program, but registration is required by Nov. 14. Please stop by the Levy Center front desk or call 847-448-8250.


Fran Randall Memorial Concert November 18

Music note

The Fran Randall Memorial Concert Series spotlights music students from local colleges, universities and high schools. All concerts include the Levy Center’s refurbished Steinway grand piano. On Fri., Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m., violinist Karisa Chiu will perform. She has won prizes from numerous competitions, including the 2015 Cooper International Competition (4th prize), the Society of American Musicians Competition (1st place) Sejong Music Competition (2nd place) and many more. 

The concert series is underwritten by the Levy Senior Center Foundation. Refreshments are provided by Symphony of Evanston. Admission is free.


Open Enrollment Assistance November 22

On Tues., Nov. 22, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the North Shore Senior Center, Walgreens and the Levy Senior Center are hosting an Open Enrollment event where trained counselors will be available to assist you with Part D or Medicare Advantage enrollment, or other Medicare questions.
