Main-Dempster Mile Commissions Mural by Artist and Evanston Native Jordan Nickel
EVANSTON, ILLINOIS - A 95-foot mural by artist and Evanston native Jordan
Nickel, also known as POSE, will be installed on the north-facing wall of the
CTA viaduct at Chicago Avenue and Washington Street beginning the week of
November 1. The Main-Dempster Mile merchant association, which promotes
Evanston’s vibrant south-central neighborhood, commissioned the mural.
The installation will be celebrated through a social media
campaign that encourages pedestrians, including the thousands of commuters
using the Main Street CTA and RTA stations each week, to “mash-up” their own
photos of the mural and share them using the hashtag #MDMstreetart. The
Main-Dempster Mile envisions commissioning at least one mural a year for the
next several years.
Nickel describes his work as “a pop re-appropriation of
everyday life, interpreted as highly layered abstract narratives.” Nickel
has shown his art in galleries spanning the globe – including Dubai, London,
New York and Los Angeles – and in grandiose outdoor settings on six different
continents. Learn more about POSE’s work at hellopose.com.
