EVANSTON POLICE INVESTIGATE CRASH INVOLVING BICYCLIST AND TRUCK
On Thursday, September 22, 2016 at approximately 5:00 P.M. Evanston Police responded to a traffic crash involving a cement truck and bicyclist. The crash occurred in the 2000 block of Sheridan Rd. between Garrett Pl. and Library Pl.
The cement truck was traveling north bound on Sheridan Rd. when it made contact with a bicyclist traveling west bound on Northwestern Pl. The bicyclist, an 18 year old female Northwestern University student who was unresponsive when Evanston Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene, was transported with multiple injuries to Evanston North Shore University Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The identity of the bicyclist is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
The crash is currently being investigated by the Evanston Police Department's Traffic Bureau with the assistance of the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT). At this preliminary stage, it is believed that the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet. No citations have been issued to the cement truck operator, a male 38 year old resident of Des Plaines, Illinois at this time. However, the crash is still under investigation.
