Everyone is invited to the
Inaugural Fifth Ward Festival on Sat., Aug. 27, from noon to 8 p.m. at
Twiggs Park (Simpson and Bridge Streets). The event will provide residents
living outside the Fifth Ward an opportunity to experience and learn more about
this part of our community.
The festival will
include music, food, young entertainers, speakers, and outreach booths by local
organizations providing information about jobs and job training, mental health
care, voter registration and more, all of which contribute to empowerment and
can help reduce gun violence. Police and firefighters will be on hand to share
information about public service jobs and mingle with the community.
On behalf of the Evanston Police Department, with support
from the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management
(DHSEM) and its Active Threat Program, you are invited to participate in a
cohort-based training course called the Integrated Approach to Active Threat
Preparedness, taking place September 21-23, 2016 at the City of Evanston
Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd.
The tragedies at Sandy Hook, Aurora, Washington Navy Yard,
and more recently in Paris, Brussels, San Bernardino, and Orlando remind us
that we need to be prepared for active threat events occurring in our
community.
The Integrated Approach to Active Threat Preparedness brings
a fresh perspective to the complex issue of preparing for an active threat
event. This two-and-a-half-day training course is based on a collaborative
approach among key stakeholders and the whole community. Instructors will
provide insight on lessons learned from previous events, along with guidance
and tools to help prevent, mitigate, respond to, and recover from a future
active threat event.
This course is geared to middle-level managers who will be
the champions in their organization as they look for a way to build a better
understanding of active threat preparedness. We are looking for a single
individual to participate from your organization. Please register to participate
in this training course.
