Sewer Repair on 900 Block of Davis Street June 16
Sewer Manhole Inspection
During a recent inspection, a sewer manhole beneath the Metra railroad overpass on Davis Street between Elmwood and Benson Avenues was found to be in need of minor repair. This manhole must be repaired to ensure the continuity of the sewer system.
Sewer and Street Repair
City Sewer Division crews in conjunction with the Evanston Street Division will conduct a minor excavation on the north (westbound) side of Davis Street directly beneath the Metra railroad overpass. A steel plate will be installed so normal traffic flow can resume the same day.
Schedule and Traffic Impacts
The sewer will be repaired on Thursday, June 16, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and the street restoration will be completed on Tuesday, June 21. Parking will not be affected and the entrance to the Metra Station on the north side of Davis Street will remain open. However, the northern half of Davis Street, including the bike lane, will be closed between Benson and Elmwood Avenues during work hours. All traffic will be diverted into the two lanes on the south side of the street. This lane closure is intended to last only during construction. Advance warning signs will be placed in the 1600 block of Benson Avenue as well as the 600 block of Davis Street and traffic will begin the transition to the south side in the 800 block of Davis. All driveways and walkways will remain accessible during construction.
