Community members are invited to experience "Justice for Peace," a new art exhibition that will be on display in the second floor gallery of the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, located at 927 Noyes St. in Evanston. The exhibit debuts Sunday, January 31 and will be on display throughout the month of February.
"Justice for Peace" is curated by Fran Joy, an Evanston artist whose work aims to show the power, strength, and triumph of the human spirit. It is centered around Black History Month and features local artists Jevoid Simmons; David Anthony Geary; Dino Robinson, Founder of Shorefront; Angela Williams; and ETHS students.
An opening reception for the exhibition will take place on January 31, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Center. The reception will feature live performances by spoken word artists Ayinde Jean-Baptiste and Lauren Davis; vocalist Matthew Hunter; and musician Donovan Mixon. Ensemble members from Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre's Pop Up Theatre also will perform.
Speakers include Rev. Ric Hudgens; Rev. Dr. Michael Nabors of Second Baptist Church of Evanston; Ra Joy, Executive Director of Change Illinois; Jennifer Veits of Rogers Park Community Peace Circle; and Cicely Fleming of OPAL (Organization for Positive Action and Leadership).
