"I Heart Evanston Trees" Art Contest Winners Announced, Greeting Cards Now Available

The City’s Environmental Services Bureau is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 “I Heart Evanston Trees” Art Contest! The 12 winning images can be viewed online, and will be featured on greeting cards and postcards available for purchase. All proceeds will help replace fallen trees in Evanston.


Register for the Ecology Center's Bug-A-Boo Halloween Walk this Saturday!

Register today for the Evanston Ecology Center's annual Bug-A-Boo Halloween Walk this Sat., Oct. 24! This year's event will showcase the creepy, gross and scary misfits of the animal world. Classes will begin every 20 minutes starting at 10 a.m., and continue until 11:20 a.m., lasting about one hour.


Young Local Artists Encouraged to Sell Their Work at GOALed Gallery Holiday Sale

Local artists, crafters and makers ages 13 to 21 are invited to participate in the City’s first-ever GOALed Gallery Holiday Sale to sell their work, network with other artists, and learn about entrepreneurship. The sale will be held at various locations throughout Evanston in November and December.


Save the Date: Celebrate "Day of the Dead" at the Levy Center November 1

Academy of Mexican Dance & Music

Celebrate the “Day of the Dead” at the Levy Center on Sun., Nov. 1, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The free event will feature a concert performance from the Academy of Mexican Dance and Music, the region’s premiere Mexican folkloric performing ensemble. Other fun activities include interactive arts stations where families can create ofrendas, and a costume parade for all ages.

Flu season is fast approaching! The City’s Health & Human Services Department encourages all residents to get a flu shot to help keep the community healthy this winter. A list of nearby locations where flu shots are available can be found online.

Enjoy food, live music, face painting and an interactive game truck at the "Evanston Peace Party" this Sat., Oct. 24, noon to 3 p.m., outside the Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center. This event is part of the "Evanston Own It" Initiative.


Trick or Treat Trot 10/25

Put on your costumes and bring the whole family to Centennial Park on Sun., Oct. 25 for the third annual Trick or Treat Trot. The event features a 6K run for adults and kids runs of varying, age-appropriate distances. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Foundation 65.

CTA Yellow Line Back in Service Beginning Oct. 30

CTA Yellow Line

Service along the CTA Yellow Line will resume on Fri., Oct. 30. Trains will operate on the normal weekday schedule. The CTA will be performing track maintenance, inspection and testing, including running test trains, through the end of October.


ESO Opens 70th Season 10/25

Evanston Symphony Orchestra

The Evanston Symphony Orchestra will open its 70th season at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall on Sun., Oct. 25, at 2:30 p.m. The program, titled Scheherazade and Other Tales, is comprised of orchestral favorites depicting literary tales.


Pizza Fest Fundraiser 10/27

Pizza Fest, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston, returns with costume prizes and all the pizza and beverages you can handle served by ETHS cheerleaders! The event will take place on Tues., Oct. 27, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Giordano’s, 1527 Chicago Ave.

Public Hearing on Proposed 2016 Budget 10/24

The City Council will hold a Public Hearing on the Proposed 2016 Budget on Sat., Oct. 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the James C. Lytle Council Chambers. The meeting will also include a discussion on a preliminary tax levy estimate.
