"Open House Chicago" Comes to Evanston!

Get free, behind-the-scenes access to Evanston's architectural treasures! This weekend, Sat., Oct. 17 and Sun., Oct. 18, the Chicago Architecture Foundation's "Open House Chicago" event will open the doors to 200 buildings, including 14 in Evanston. A complete list of locations is available online.

Oak Awareness Month Events October 17

Celebrate Oak Awareness Month this Sat., Oct. 17! From 9 a.m. to noon, stop by the Evanston Ecology Center for drop-in activities for all ages, a tree walk, and an oak tree planting. Then, at 3:30 p.m., attend the dedication of the Clark St. Beach Bird Sanctuary, located at Sheridan Rd. and Clark St. 


2016 Proposed Budget Now Available Online

The City's 2016 Proposed Budget is now available online. The budget will be formally presented to the City Council on Mon., Oct. 19, 7 p.m., in the James C. Lytle City Council Chambers. Residents are also invited to attend a public hearing on the budget on Sat., Oct. 24, at 9 a.m., in the Council Chambers.


Household Chemical Waste Collection Event October 17

On Sat., Oct. 17, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., community members can dispose of unwanted household chemical waste, such as cleaners, aerosol products, motor oil, and more, at the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County's (SWALCO) collection event at the Lake Forest Municipal Services Center, 800 N. Open Studios at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center 10/18

On Sun., Oct. 18, artists at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center will open studio doors to the public to view works in progress. Tour art studios throughout the building from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be provided.


"Know Your Rights and Resources" Panel 10/21

On Wed., Oct. 21, at 7 p.m., attend a panel discussion, "Interacting with the Police: Know Your Rights and Resources," in the Linden Room of the Levy Center, 300 Dodge Ave. The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Trick or Treat Trot for Tails Walkathon October 31

Join the Evanston Animal Shelter Association for the Trick or Treat Trot for Tails Walkathon on Sat., Oct. 31, 10 a.m., at Centennial Park, located at Sheridan Rd. and Clark St. The event will include a costume contest for pets. Register to walk and create a fundraising goal to help support the Animal Shelter!


Participate in the Marty F. Leoni Fun Run 10/18

All are invited to participate in the 30th Annual Marty F. Leoni Fun Run on Sun., Oct. 18, 8:30 a.m. to noon, beginning at Evanston Fire Department Headquarters and finishing in Elliott Park. Refreshments will follow.


Youth Job Center's Fall Job Fair 10/22

On Thurs., Oct. 22, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., attend the Youth Job Center's Fall Job Fair at the Levy Center. The event is open to all job-seekers 16 years and older. Applications will be available on site, and participating employers will conduct on-the-spot interviews.

Former Mayor Joan Barr-Smith Aldermanic Library Dedication 10/19

The City is honoring former Evanston Mayor Joan Barr-Smith by renaming the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center Aldermanic Chambers in her memory. The public is cordially invited to the dedication ceremony on Mon., Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., and the reception that will immediately follow.
