 EVANSTON, ILLINOIS - Evanston community members are invited to attend this year’s
Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off Celebration with live music, art, food, salsa
dancing and more on Sunday, September 13, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., on the grounds
of Washington School, located at Main St. and Ashland Ave.
Presented by the City of Evanston and Latino Resources, this
year’s cultural event will feature salsa dance instruction by Ilana Ventura and
live musical performances by Victor Garcia’s Quartet and the Jarochicanos. Fun,
family activities include a make-your-own piñata station, folkloric doll
decorating, lotería/Mexican bingo and soccer shoot-outs. Admission is free and
open to all ages.
The Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-off celebration is a part
of this year’s Streets Alive!
event, a mile-long “open streets” initiative that aims to inspire healthy,
green transportation and new ways to use public space.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed each year from
September 15 to October 15. This year’s national theme is “Honoring Our
