Share Your Feedback on 2016 Street Cleaning

Community members are asked to provide their feedback on potential changes to the 2016 street cleaning schedule and street signage. The City is considering changes to better communicate street cleaning dates, eliminate confusion and improve operations. The survey must be completed by 5 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 21. 


Purchase Tickets for FJT's "Maya's Last Poem" Premiere this Weekend!

Maya's Last Poem

You're invited to attend Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre’s last play of the Summertime Season, "Maya’s Last Poem," by Tim Rhoze. The world premiere of this special play opens August 8 and will run through August 23 on Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.


Watch "Star Trek" Under the Stars at Twiggs Park Aug. 8

Movies

Enjoy a beautiful summer night under the stars and watch Star Trek (2009) on Sat., Aug. 8, at dusk, in Twiggs Park, located at Dodge Ave. at Simpson St. The City’s Starlight Movies in the Park series runs through Sat., Aug. 22 and includes various films, such as Guardians of the GalaxyThe LEGO Movie, and The Great Debaters.


Special Event: Movie Night at Northwestern, Ryan Field Aug. 13

On Thurs., Aug.13, community members are invited to attend Northwestern University Athletics' Movie Night on the grass at Ryan Field for a special showing of Big Hero 6 on the video board. Bring a blanket (no chairs allowed). Doors open at 6:15 p.m.; movie begins at 7 p.m. Free parking and admission. Movie-goers receive complimentary popcorn and Coca-Cola beverages. Rain site: Welsh-Ryan Arena.


Attend Rollin' with Rotary Tour Aug. 6

Rollin

On Thurs., Aug. 6, the Rollin’ with Rotary tour will stop at Rotary International headquarters in Evanston to partake in community service projects and more.  At 4:30 p.m., the group will distribute reusable bags at the Davis Street Metra and CTA train stations in support of Evanston’s “Think Outside the Bag” initiative.


Reminder: Dogs Must Be Leashed in Public

Evanston dog owners are reminded that pets must be leashed in public, including at City parks. Annual memberships can be purchased for Pooch Park and the Evanston Dog Beach, where dogs may run off-leash.


Join Run for Walk 5K 8/9

Northwestern

On Sun., Aug. 9, 7:30 a.m., community members are invited to participate in Northwestern University's "Run for Walk" 4.1 mile run and family 5K. Cost to participate in the run or walk is $40; $15 for the youth mile; and $10 for kid races. Online registration closes at 5 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 7.


Construction Alert

ETHS House Move Scheduled for Aug. 11

Construction

On Tues., Aug. 11, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Evanston Township High School will relocate the single-family home built by the high school's Geometry in Construction class to its new location at 1820 Dodge Ave. The house is set to depart east on Lake St. and North on Dodge Ave. During the move, Dodge Ave. will be blocked off from all traffic between Emerson and Church Streets, with the exception of buses. 


EPL Participates in 100,000 Opportunities Initiative

The Evanston Public Library has joined the "100,000 Opportunities Initiative" to help young adults who are not in school find jobs and get connected to employment services and resources. The goal is to hire 1,000 young adults over the next 18 months. Stop by the main library for detail or click below.


Duck Race and Pluck 8/8

On Sat., Aug. 8, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., attend the annual Duck Race and Pluck "fun-raiser" for the Evanston Environmental Association at Dawes Park, located on Sheridan Rd. at Church St. Attendees can sponsor one duck for $10 or a "Quack Pack" of three for $25.
