Evanston Lakeshore Arts Fest this Weekend!

Attend the annual Evanston Lakeshore Arts Festival this Sat., Aug. 1 and Sun., Aug. 2, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Dawes Park! The festival showcases fine art by nearly 100 artists and features live music, the popular Children’s Craft Tent, delicious food from a variety of restaurants, a silent auction, and more!


Celebrate "National Night Out" Aug. 4

Evanston community members are encouraged to take a stand against crime by hosting or attending events in their neighborhood as part of this year’s “National Night Out” Celebration on Tues., Aug. 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Enjoy the summer's first Starlight Movie in the Park, Akeelah and the Bee, on Tues., Aug. 4, at dusk, in Penny Park, located at Lake St. and Ashland Ave. The City’s Starlight Movies in the Park series runs through Sat., Aug. 22 and includes various films, such as Star Trek (2009)The LEGO MovieThe Great Debaters, and more!


Think Outside the Bag! Plastic Shopping Bag Ordinance Takes Effect Aug. 1

Beginning this Sat., Aug. 1, large Evanston retailers will no longer offer free disposable plastic shopping bags to customers. Paper bags, as well as plastic bags used to package products in-store, such as produce, meat and other grocery items, are not affected by the ordinance. Take advantage of the City's Share a Bag program to donate or pick up reusable bags at locations throughout Evanston.

"Evanston Own It" Initiative Donates $13,500 to MSYEP

On Mon., July 27, members of the “Evanston Own It” initiative donated all of the proceeds from the June 19 choir concert, “Evanston Sings,” totaling $13,500, to the City’s Youth & Youth Adult Division to help fund the 2016 Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program (MSYEP). 


Help Provide School Supplies for D65 Students in Need

School Supplies

District 65 is partnering with COPE and the District 65 PTA Council to provide school supplies for 600 students in need. Individuals and organizations are invited to make donations to help reach this year's fundraising goal of $15,000.
