 On Mon., July 27, members of the “Evanston Own It” initiative donated all of the proceeds from its June 19 choir concert, “Evanston Sings,” totaling $13,500, to the City of Evanston’s Youth & Youth Adult Division to help fund the 2016 Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program. The donation was presented at the Evanston City Council meeting by Pastor Zollie Webb, Pastor Clifford Wilson, and Reverend Patricia A. Efiom. On Sat., Aug. 1, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., community members are invited to attend the 2015 Gospel Fest located at 2010 Dewey Ave. in Evanston. The event is free and open to the public, and will feature performances from Evanston community choirs, praise dancers, and soloists.
Join Second Baptist Church's Back to School Prayer Vigil Aug. 7
 You're invited to attend Second Baptist Church's Back to School Prayer Vigil on Fri., Aug. 7, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the SBC Community Garden located at Church St. and Pitner Ave. in Evanston. Attendees will pray for children, youth and college students, parents and grandparents, guardians, teachers, administrators, police and security, and other school personnel. On Sat., Aug. 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members are encouraged to attend Bethel AME Church's "Back to School Jam," located at 1744 Darrow Ave., to celebrate the start of the new year with free school supplies, health checks, and much more.
