Final Starlight Concert of the Season at Dawes Park July 28

On Tues., July 28, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., community members are invited to attend the last Starlight Concert of the season to enjoy the Latin band Grupo Cumbé at Dawes Park, located on Sheridan Rd. at Church St. in Evanston. The band fuses traditional Afro-Colombian percussion, with elements of big band style Cumbia and jazz.

Evanston Lakeshore Arts Festival Aug. 1-2

Attend the annual Evanston Lakeshore Arts Festival on Sat., Aug. 1 and Sun., Aug. 2, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Dawes Park and enjoy the nationally recognized juried fine arts and crafts festival. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet artists and purchase their work, have fun at the Children’s Crafts Tent, taste a variety of culinary delights, and participate in a silent art auction.

Looking for information on the best place to park your bike in the city or how to properly lock it? Watch the City's new instructional video to learn all this and more! Additionally, community members are reminded to visit bikeevaston.org and click “Test Your Road IQ!” to take the Illinois League of Bicyclists’ Bike Safety Quiz. The first 25 residents to earn a Gold certificate and email it to bikes@cityofevanston.org or tweet it to @bikeevanston by Fri., July 24 will receive a free bike bell.


Reminder: Shopping Bag Ordinance Effective Aug. 1

Community members are reminded that all Evanston retailers larger than 10,000 square feet will no longer offer free disposable plastic shopping bags to customers beginning Sat., Aug. 1.  Paper bags, as well as plastic bags used to package products in-store, such as produce, meat and other grocery items, are not affected by the ordinance. Take advantage of the City's Share a Bag program to donate or pick-up reusable shipping bags at locations throughout Evanston. 


Youth Job Center Introduces Two New Training Programs
