"It's Thursday, Let's Dance!" Returns Tonight!

Come on out to the only outdoor dance floor north of Chicago! "It's Thursday, Let's Dance!" returns to Downtown Evanston for its 16th year tonight, June 11, at 7 p.m., with a performance by Highland Park Pops Big Band at the 909 Davis St. Plaza. Participate in Bike to Work Week June 12-19

Community members are encouraged to trade their gas pedals for bike pedals during Chicagoland’s Bike to Work Week, June 12-19. Free events throughout the week include a special happy hour at World of Beer, a bike rally at Fountain Square, and multiple sponsored bike pit stops. Bicyclists are also encouraged to log their trips by participating in the Active Transportation Alliance’s Bike Commuter Challenge.


City Launches "Think Outside the Bag" Campaign, Program Begins June 12

Beginning Aug. 1, 2015, large Evanston retailers will no longer provide free, point-of-sale disposable plastic shopping bags to customers. To help community members transition away from disposable plastic shopping bags, the City has launched a “Think Outside the Bag” campaign. As a part of the campaign, community members and organizations are encouraged to drop off or pick up reusable shopping bags at community centers across the city beginning Fri., June 12. 


Attend Taste of Evanston 2015 Event

Join the Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club on Sun., June 14, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., for the Taste of Evanston 2015 event at the John Evans Center at Northwestern University. Attendees will get to enjoy good company, big band music and a taste of Evanston's finest restaurants. Tickets are $75 for adults; $1.50 for children. Limited tickets are available. 


Final Hours: Parks/Facilities 2016-2018 Projects Survey

Provide your feedback regarding potential parks and facilities projects by taking the "2016-2018 Parks & Facilities Capital Improvement Draft Plan Survey." The survey ends tonight, June 11 at 10 p.m. Results will be presented during the City Council Meeting on Mon., June 15.

On Sun., June 14, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America will make its way through Evanston as participants make their way to deliver the Flame of Hope to Los Angeles for the Special Olympics World Games.

Northwestern University Commencement Schedule

On Fri., June 19 and Sat., June 20, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Northwestern University will host commencement events at Ryan Field, McGraw Hall, and other locations around campus. A shuttle route will run on Ashland Ave., Isabella St., Ridge Ave., Lincoln St., Sheridan Rd., Elgin Rd., and Emerson St. There will be heavy traffic near Ryan Field, so plan your travel accordingly.


Provide Feedback to Make Evanston More Age Friendly!

Help create a more livable community by taking the City's “Age Friendly Evanston!” survey. Survey responses will be used to develop a three-year action plan to help achieve age-friendly goals in Evanston. The deadline to complete the survey is midnight on Fri., June 19.
