Evanston Purple Line Express Pilot Program Begins June 1

Starting Mon., June 1, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and the City of Evanston will conduct a six-week pilot program to test an additional weekday evening round-trip Purple Line Express train between Linden and the Loop. To encourage commuters to take advantage of the extended train schedule and travel to and from Evanston, local businesses and organizations have planned a number of restaurant promotions and events throughout the six weeks. 


Arrington Lakefront Lagoon Dedication June 6

Arrington Lagoon

On Sat., June 6, 3:30 p.m., community members are invited to celebrate the reopening of the Arrington Lakefront Lagoon during its dedication event at Dawes Park. Wine, beer and food will be available for purchase from Sips on Sherman, Temperance Beer Co., and Kefi Greek Tavern throughout the event. Following the dedication, attendees will get to enjoy the summer’s first Starlight Concert featuring a high energy performance from Velocity


Celebrate the Arts at Open Studios Evanston June 6

On Sat., June 6, noon to 5 p.m., community members are invited to attend Open Studios Evanston, a free event that opens studio and gallery doors throughout Evanston to the general public. This year, attendees will get to view works of art from more than 100 Evanston artists, listen to live music, watch dance performances, and join in creating a community quilt. Provide Input on Harley Clarke Mansion Options

On May 18, the Harley Clarke Citizens' Committee held a public workshop to discuss and gather feedback on the five remaining options for the Harley Clarke Mansion. View video from the workshop, including presentations by community members in favor of each of the options, and then provide your input by taking a brief survey. Surveys must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Sun., May 31.


Attend the 4th Annual Evanston Green Ball May 29

The 4th annual Evanston Green Ball will take place on Fri., May 29, 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., at the Levy Center. The Green Ball is celebrated as one of the year’s best environmental events. Supporters of green causes will gather, converse, eat, drink and dance the night away. Tickets may be purchased at the door the day of the event. 


Purchase Tickets to "Why Not Me? A Sammy Davis Jr. Story"

On Sat., June 13, “Why Not Me? A Sammy Davis Jr. Story” will return to the Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre to kick off its 2015 Summertime Season. The play runs through June 28 on Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12, in advance, and $17 on the performance date. Seniors and students can purchase tickets for $10 with a valid ID at the door only.


Senior Citizen Bahama Mama Retreat 5/30

On Sat., May 30, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center will be transformed into the Bahamas for guests age 55 and older to bask in comforting heat while dancing and enjoying famous island cuisine. Admission is $5 at the door.

Ald. Judy Fiske will hold a 1st Ward meeting on Tues., June 2, 7 p.m., at the main Evanston Public Library.

Ald. Melissa A. Wynne will host a 3rd Ward meeting on Thurs., June 4, 7 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room of Lincoln Elementary School.

Local Vets Encouraged to Attend Resource Fair

On Sat., June 6, 10 a.m., veterans and their families are encouraged to attend the Veterans Resource Fair in the Community Meeting Room at the main Evanston Public Library. Attends will get to speak with local organizations and enroll in services onsite, if eligible. The event is free and all are welcome. No registration is required.


Participate in Energy Benchmarking Initiative

The Evanston Utilities Commission has launched an initiative to explore the creation of a potential Building Energy Efficiency Benchmarking ordinance. On Tues., June 9, 6 p.m., community members and organization representatives who feel that they would be impacted are invited to attend the first Evanston stakeholders meeting in Room 2404 at the Morton Civic Center.


Livable Landscapes Program Deadline 6/5

The City is pleased to support the Evanston Environmental Association and Nature’s Perspective Landscaping’s new Livable Landscapes program. Those who are participating in the program must place their orders for plants by Fri., June 5. There is a minimum purchase order of $50, before tax, in order to participate.


Vital Records News

City's Office of Vital Records Closed 6/1

Certificate

 The City's Office of Vital Records will be closed on Mon., June 1 due to staff relocating to Room 1600 at the Morton Civic Center. Offices will re-open for regular hours on Tues., June 2.
