Attend the Harley Clarke Mansion Workshop Tonight

HCM

Bring your best thinking and bright ideas to a community workshop to explore the viability and desirability of five general options for the Harley Clarke building, convened by the Harley Clarke Citizens Committee. The meeting will be held on Tonight, May 18, 7 pm, in the Parasol Room of the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.

Please attend this meeting and share your valuable feedback. It is important that all voices are heard regarding the decision of the mansion.

AS A REMINDER:  The Harley Clarke Citizens Committee has unanimously agreed that it will not consider any option in which Lighthouse Beach or access to the beach does not remain publicly owned.

Each option will be presented by a member of the community.  The proposed general options include:

  • Renovating the building for some to-be-determined use by the City.
  • Demolishing the building and redeveloping the site as park land.
  • Selling the building and allowing it to be renovated for a commercial use, such as a hotel or event space.
  • Selling the building and allowing the site to be redeveloped under R1 (residential) zoning.
  • Selling or gifting the building to an organization that would renovate and preserve it for public cultural and/or educational use.

During the workshop, four community members will have 10 minutes to present the case for their preferred option. Following the presentations, attendees will take part in a series of small group discussions to provide feedback on each option. Please note: Although there were no volunteers to present on the demolition option, the topic will still be included in the small-group discussions.

At the conclusion of the event, facilitators from each group will report their group’s feedback to the larger group. All participants will be asked to rank their preferences through a survey.

Those unable to attend the event will be able to watch a video of the presentations on the City’s YouTube Channel and provide their feedback online. Links to the video and survey will be available online at cityofevanston.org/mansion once presentations are completed.

The committee will incorporate feedback from the public workshop into a report that will be presented to the Evanston City Council on Monday, June 8, 2015.
