Attend the 2015 YEA! Day Festival this Saturday

Community members are invited to attend the 2015 YEA! (Young Evanston Artists) Day festival on Sat., May 16, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at its new location in Raymond Park. The whole family will get to enjoy onsite activities and attractions, including live performances, food trucks, and much more.


Enjoy Select Summer Classes at a Discount!

Community members are encouraged to use the Evanston Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department's “Evanston Rec” mobile app when registering for classes this summer to receive an exclusive 10 percent discount offer on select programs. App users will have until Sun., May 31 to use their discount code.


3rd Annual Senior Citizen Spelling Bee May 16

On Sat., May 16, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre, Levy Senior Center, and the Evanston Public Library will host the city's local round for the State of Illinois Senior Citizen Spelling Bee Competition at the Levy Senior Center. Witness this exciting day of competitive, linguistic challenges complete with the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

The Evanston Literary Festival is currently celebrating our city's vibrant literary community. Through Mon., May 18, participants will get to enjoy special events at their favorite independent bookstores, hear from local authors and buy their books, meet writers, and more.


Wrap Up: "Let's Roll Together" Campaign Events

On May 11-13, the City successfully launched its “Let’s Roll Together” campaign to remind all road users to do their part in keeping the roads safe for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists. The City would like to thank everyone who participated in the campaign.


Reminder: Dogs Must Be Leashed in Public

As the weather warms up, Evanston dog owners are reminded that pets must be leashed in public, including at City parks. Annual memberships can be purchased for Pooch Park and the Evanston Dog Beach, where dogs may run off-leash.


Rotary PizzaFest 5/19

Join the Rotary Club of Evanston for the annual Rotary PizzaFest event on Tues., May 19, 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Gigio's Pizzeria, located at 1001 Davis St., in Evanston. Tickets are $25 for adults; $15 for children. Proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club of Evanston's Charitable Fund.

Longtime Evanstonian Receives Congressional Gold Medal

Col. Compton

On May 9, longtime Evanstonian Colonel Charles Compton was presented with his individual award as part of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Congressional Gold Medal. The CAP is now formally recognized for its service flying armed surveillance and protection during WWII.


Evanston Art Center Annual Spring Benefit 5/16

On Sat., May 16, 6 p.m., community members are invited to attend the Evanston Art Center's 28th Annual Spring Benefit, "The Art Party." Individual tickets are $200. Ticket prices include dinner, use of a photo booth, participation in the silent auction, and more.

Harley Clarke Committee Community Meeting 5/18

On Mon., May 18, 7 p.m., the Harley Clarke Committee will hold a community meeting in the Parasol Room of the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., Evanston, regarding remaining options for the mansion. Presentations for each option will be provided by community members.
