Stormwater Management Releases 2022 Annual Report

DuPage County Stormwater Management 2022 Annual Report

DuPage County Stormwater Management (SWM) released its 2022 Annual Report in early February. The report highlights important milestones SWM accomplished in 2022. Notably, DuPage County allotted nearly $22 million of American Rescue Plan funds to SWM. DuPage County’s Stormwater Management Planning Committee awarded more than $8 million in grant funds to 26 projects from 17 municipalities to construct flood control and water quality improvements. In addition, the County awarded more than $1 million in grant funding for seven drainage projects in five townships.

SWM Breaks Ground on Drainage Improvement Project

Smith and Cambridge Drainage Project

Storm sewer ready to be installed at the Smith and Cambridge project site.

The Smith and Cambridge Drainage Improvement Project was designed in collaboration with the Wayne Township Road District and Forest Preserve District of DuPage County to address urban flooding. This project includes more than 3,000 feet of storm sewer and restoration work in the nearby West Branch Forest Preserve. It is funded by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and expected to be complete by the end of the year.

SWM Accepting Water Quality Input

SWM is currently accepting input on their Countywide Water Quality Program until February 22. SWM has created a virtual meeting for the public to learn more about the program, as well as submit comments.

Sustainable Design Challenge Logo

SWM and SCARCE have opened registration for local high school students interested in participating in the 17th annual Sustainable Design Challenge. Scheduled for April 18, the Challenge encourages students to take what they have learned in the classroom and apply it to real life scenarios by designing and constructing sustainable building and landscape models. Registration will be open through April 3.

Water Quality Lunch 'n Learn

Thursday, March 9, 2023, Noon - 1:00 P.M.

SWM is hosting a free water quality webinar. Kelsey Gattone, from Strand Associates, Inc. will present on Hydromodifications Along Urbanized Waterways. The presentation will focus on how hydromodifications affect waterways and consequently community infrastructure in urbanized areas using the City of Naperville’s South Central Interceptor Stabilization Project as an example. Advanced registration is required.

Monday, April 17, 2023, 7:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.

Join Jim Kleinwachter of The Conservation Foundation as he discusses how the Conservation@Home program, sponsored by SWM. He will discuss how rain barrels, rain gardens and native plants work together to foster healthy ecosystems in your yard. He will also explain how to get a free consultation for your property. The free event will be held at the Addison Public Library (4 Friendship Plaza). Advanced registration is required.

2023 Sustainable Design Challenge

DuPage County and SCARCE are celebrating the 17th annual Sustainable Design
Challenge, which promotes environmental and stormwater education in local high schools.
Students from DuPage County high schools will display their innovative and resilient
building and landscape designs on the first floor of DuPage County's Administration Building (421 N. County Farm Rd., Wheaton, IL).

DuPage County River Sweep 2023

Saturday, May 20, 2023, 9:00 A.M. - Noon

Sponsored in part by SWM, The Conservation Foundation's annual DuPage County River
Sweep is a countywide stream cleanup held each spring. Individuals, businesses and other
organizations may become involved in this year's River Sweep by serving as a Community
Liaison, Group Coordinator or Individual Volunteer. Pre-registration is required to participate
in the River Sweep.
