Gov. Rauner Signs Election Commission Consolidation Bill
Gov. Bruce Rauner joined Chairman Dan Cronin, County Clerk Paul Hinds, County Board member Grant Eckhoff, and local lawmakers as he signed House Bill 5123 into law.
House Bill 5123 provides the DuPage County Board with the authority to dissolve the DuPage County Election Commission and fold its duties into the County Clerk’s Office.
A majority of DuPage County voters approved a referendum question on the consolidation in March, and the General Assembly unanimously approved the bill this spring. The law becomes effective Jan. 1, 2019. The County Board will consider an ordinance in January officially dissolving the Election Commission. Through this merger, the County expects to save taxpayers $300,000 annually.

 New DU-COMM Dispatch Center Dedicated
DuPage County Board members Tim Elliott and Grant Eckhoff, DuPage Public Safety Communications, and DuPage Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) dedicated the new DU-COMM 9-1-1 Communications Center in June. DuPage’s DU-COMM is now the largest consolidated public safety communications center in Illinois.
The center occupies more than 30,000 square feet of new construction and renovated space at the former DuPage Juvenile Detention Center on the County campus in Wheaton.
The DuPage County Board has voted to include three referendum questions on the November 2018 ballot related to taxes and the size of local government. The questions are as follows:
- “Shall DuPage County oppose the General Assembly instituting a property tax increase equivalent to 1% of your home’s value to help retire state debt?”
- “Shall DuPage County oppose the creation of a statewide Vehicle Mileage Tax (VMT) which would tax DuPage County citizens based upon the number of miles driven annually?”
- “Shall DuPage County continue to dissolve and consolidate units of local government to reduce costs, increase efficiencies, and increase accountability?”
For more information about the questions, please visit www.dupageco.org/CountyBoard/Docs/57996.
County Board members Amy Grant, Tim Elliott, and Grant Eckhoff talked to Boy Scouts from Troop 505 in Naperville. The Scouts attended the County Board meeting and talked to Board members about the role of County government.
County Board Receives Presentation on Fire District Savings
Chairman Dan Cronin welcomed Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Chief Keith Krestan (from left to right), Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District Chief Steven Gorsky, and Lisle-Woodridge Fire District President Brent Frank to a recent County Board meeting to discuss successful, functional consolidation efforts between the two departments. The two departments have been able to reduce costs by sharing personnel and equipment. The collaboration has resulted in better response times and increased public safety.
